Do you feel tired and sleepy when you shouldn’t? Do tiredness and sleepiness affect your day-to-day activities and your life in general? For sure, you’re looking for ways to end this condition. But before you can do something about your tiredness or sleepiness, you must first understand its causes.
If your reason for tiredness is not poor nutrition because you’re sure that you’re eating healthy and well balanced meals in the right amount at the right times, then it must be lack of physical activity. But that’s not possible! You do yoga exercises, do aerobics and walk from your apartment to the subway everyday. You’re pretty sure that you’re moving that body and using and producing enough energy.
If neither nutrition nor exercise is the cause, then sleep deprivation has got to be your reason for tiredness. Having adequate good quality sleep or being well-rested is essential for our health and well-being. It allows the body to renew energy and repair injuries, strengthens the immune system, helps overcome stress, keeps memory sharp, prevents illnesses and much more. Even a little sleep loss can affect our memory, concentration, mood and emotional balance and physical condition.
Lack of sleep could be causing your tiredness but what could be the underlying cause of your sleep deprivation? Take a closer look at your lifestyle and habits. You’re probably sleep deprived because you have an unhealthy lifestyle. Do you work on late shifts? Do you drink coffee or alcohol before bedtime? Is your concept of power nap a 2-hour-long sleep in the afternoon? Do you love to watch late night TV? These habits and lifestyle choices certainly affect your sleep schedule.
Physical and mental health problems, as well as medication side effects can also cause sleep deprivation. If you have asthma, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression, you probably don’t get to sleep well at night. It’s the same thing if you take medications. Some medicines or pills interfere with your body’s natural rhythms and sleep patterns.
Once you know your reason for tiredness and sleep deprivation, what can you do to improve your sleep? Take the necessary steps to change your lifestyle and habits and seek medical treatment. Minimize your caffeine intake, sleep and wake up the same time everyday, manage and eliminate work stress, and others. Ask your doctor what alternative medication you can take for your health problem, undergo therapy and hypnosis, and try some other ways.
Keep your sleep pattern back on track. Prevent sleep deprivation and get rid of tiredness for a healthy happy and normal life.
